Shoulder arthroscopy is a minimally invasive surgery that is used to diagnose and treat shoulder problems. If you have rotator cuff tears or shoulder impingement, you may need an arthroscopy. Incisions in minimally invasive surgery are smaller than in traditional surgery. Each incision is about the size of a keyhole. Through a small incision in your skin, your surgeon inserts a small camera called an arthroscope. This camera takes pictures of your shoulder and displays them on a video screen. Your provider will examine these images to determine the cause of your injury. If you need a shoulder repair, the provider will use miniature surgical instruments to restore your shoulder's mobility.
